Our New NLE
Congratulations to Derek Trimmer, Executive Headteacher for Secondary Schools at the Swale Academies Trust who has recently achieved National Leader of Education status.
Mr Trimmer, who joined the Swale Academies Trust in 2015, has recently been awarded the status of National Leader of Education. Mr Trimmer, previously Headteacher of Hove Park School, has been cited as “innovative” with a track record of transformation and inspirational secondary Headship.
This status is something Mr Trimmer has been working at for some time,
“There are significant resources that are invested in training headteachers and a lot of time and experience has gone into my own career to enable me to achieve two successful Headships. I saw this role as putting something back into schools, more specifically, it is about schools supporting schools in driving forward school improvement. The role of a NLE is a perfect job for me. Not only do I get to work with people committed to improving the life chances of children and their learning outcomes, but I also get to shape, form and manage the teams that will deliver school transformation. I am extremely passionate about schools supporting schools and feel that the expertise for genuine and sustained school improvement sits with school leaders.”
National Leaders of Education is a scheme set up by the National College for Teaching and Learning, they are outstanding Headteachers who work with schools in challenging circumstances to support school improvement. They are there to support schools, working alongside staff and discuss the challenges schools are facing and what help is needed.
“The opportunity to become a qualified NLE was the right thing to do, my ultimate ambition is to work across a number challenging schools in challenging environments and deliver the support and teams of staff that can make a real difference. The NLE programme recognises successful leaders’ skill sets and gives us a vehicle to go in and support the schools who need it most.”
