New Headteacher - Ana Gibson

Ana Gibson.jpgWe are proud to announce that Ana Gibson has been appointed Headteacher at Community College Whitstable, a Trust partner school.

Ana has worked within Swale Academies Trust for the last 15 years, is an experienced leader, understands teaching and moving schools further forward.

She started her career as a Business Studies teacher and Leader of Outdoor Education in the Yorkshire Dales, moving to Bradford as a Director of ICT. Ana was accredited as an ICT Advanced Skills Teacher but has also taught English, Maths and Science.

Since then, Ana has had a number of key roles within Swale Academies Trust including Head of Sixth Form, Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum, Community Principal and Deputy Headteacher. In addition to this, Ana is a long-serving army reservist, as an Officer in the Education Training Services branch of the Adjutant’s General Corps; she has utilised this expertise to deliver Public Services at post 16. As an army educator Ana delivers command and leadership courses to regular officers and soldiers in her spare time.

In 2015-16, she has worked in a supporting capacity at Pent Valley Technology College, Folkestone (a Trust partner school) as Acting Headteacher. She spearheaded the school through a difficult time, with standards beginning to shift and starting to improve.  Unfortunately Kent County Council recently announced it's plans to close the school.

A huge supporter of life-long learning, Ana achieved the NPQH in 2005 and was awarded a Masters degree in Education with Distinction in 2012.

Reflecting on her new Headteacher post, “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the students, staff and youngsters to improve standards at the college.”

"I am an experienced school leader and have worked in schools with similar context to CCW. I have had significant experience of working in schools within coastal towns and I am looking forward to using that experience to help improve CCW. I have met with all year groups in a series of assemblies to reinforce our expectations and explain to all the pupils that they have their part to play in terms of shaping the successful future of the college. I want CCW to be the flagship of Swale Academies Trust and am committed to putting learning first.”

We wish Ana all the success in her role at Whitstable.
