Westlands Primary School
Headteacher: Mrs L. Hopkins
Westlands Primary School is a large primary academy in Swale which is in the throes of moving from a two to three form entry school. From September 2014, there will be three classes in years R, 1 and 2. The school’s buildings are being extended to accommodate its growing number and alongside this, a complete rebuild or refurbishment has been agreed under the Priority Schools Rebuilding Programme.
WPS works relentlessly to ensure the best outcomes for children. Phonics is delivered via the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc Programme and children are taught in small groups to enable regular assessment to move them on and upwards as soon as possible. The school has also invested heavily in new resources for science, writing, maths, IT and PE. However the greatest investments have been in resourcing a high quality Guided Reading Scheme and in extending and improving the learning area both in and outside for our Early Years (Reception) children.
Westlands Primary School works in close collaboration with its sister school Regis Manor to ensure best practices are shared across the schools. It also values the support it receives from parents – as evidenced by the Parent Forum where ideas are shared and acted upon. The school also runs a highly successful Breakfast and After School club.
Our ambition is to become an Outstanding school – exactly what the pupils at Westlands Primary School deserve.
"Exceptionally strong partnerships between the trust, the executive board, the governing body and senior leaders continue to drive improvement in all aspects of school life."
